The aim of marketing is to know and understand the customer so well the product or service fits him and sells itself.

market analysis

Marketing is everything a company does to promote the sale of products or services. There are 4 elements, called the 4 P’s of marketing: Product, Price, Place and Promotion.

Product: The product that you are going to sell should appeal to your target. For example, if you are going to sell drinks to older people, they should be sugar-free drinks with serious packaging.
Price: Depending on the income of your target, you should define a selling price. Are you targeting middle-income earners, students or children?
Place: This element is more suitable for traditional business. Where are you going to establish your store: in a shopping mall, alongside a highway or in a busy street? For an online web shop this element is not relevant.
Promote: How are you going to promote your product or service? This depends on your target. If your target is children and you want to advertise on the internet, it would be wise to do this on websites which have, for example, games for children.

Make sure that you have good quality images of the product.

They say that “A picture is worth a thousand words,” so a good image of a product will likely be selling more. If you don’t have quality images of a product, it will be difficult to sell it.

Recommendations
A lot of web shops have a place on their website where customers can give their opinion about the product that they have bought. If a customer gives a good opinion about a product, chances are that other customers will buy that product based on the opinion of a satisfied customer. If you want to sell medicine, find a doctor that will recommend it. If you want to sell a beauty product, find a popular beautician that will promote your product.

More options when a customer makes a purchase
If a customer buys a product, you can show him or her related products. For example, if someone buys a shoe, he or she may need socks. This way you can make more sales.

Content Website content is the topics on a webpage. Here are some guidelines when making website content.

  • All content should be focused on promoting your product or service.
  • Be to the point. If you can explain something in one sentence, don’t use three sentences.
  • Don’t use big words unless it is necessary. Define these words if you decide to use them.
  • Talk the language of your target.
  • Let a professional editor check your content.
  • Highlight (underline, bold, italic) what is important.
  • Use bullets or numbers if it gives the reader a better overview.
  • Make paragraphs with headers if it gives the reader a better overview.
  • Use sans serif fonts; they are better to read on the internet. Examples of sans serif are Arial, Calibri, Franklin Gothic, Futura, Geneva, Helvetica, Tahoma, Trebuchet MS and Verdana.
