Affiliate Marketing
Affiliate marketing is an automated marketing program where a merchant recruits website owners to place ads on their website. The website owners receive a commission when customers make a sale through the owner’s site.
Affiliate marketing has the same principle as trading. For example, if a store owner buys a pair of shoes from the manufacturer for $5, and additional costs (e.g. transportation) are $10, he or she will not sell the shoes for $15. The selling price will be $20 or $25, and the difference is the profit that the store owner will be making on the pair of shoes. The difference between affiliate and trading marketing is that the store owner is free to set the selling price, whereas in affiliate marketing the selling price is fixed.
How does affiliate marketing work?
Every time a visitor clicks on a banner or link on your website, he or she will be sent to the merchant’s website. When this person buys something you will get a fixed percentage of the sale. The fixed percentage is called a commission and this kind of affiliate program is called Pay Per Sale. If the merchant just wants to advertise a product or service, you will be paid for each time that a visitor clicks on their link on your site. This type of affiliate program is called Pay Per Click. The other most common type of affiliate program is Pay Per Lead. You will get paid every time someone signs up on the merchant’s website through your website.
